MICHauto will include two working-level committees to establish specific goals, events, and tactics to achieve its mission.
The committees will oversee objectives such as increasing awareness on the importance of the auto-industry in Michigan through communications, promotion, and advocacy and by driving economic and talent development.
Awareness
Objective: to increase the understanding of the importance of the auto-industry in Michigan.
- Communications, Promotions, and Marketing.
- Complete and communicate assessment of automotive industry contributions to Michigan’s economy.
- Identify historical inhibitors and update/identify initiatives.
- Promote updated assessment of why conditions are favorable for Michigan to gain additional strength as industry moves to meet multiple challenges and growth potential.
- Promote collaboration between Michigan’s auto-related firms, educational institutions, labor and philanthropic organizations, and governments to work in effective partnerships.
- Promote through multiple channels.
- Advocacy
- Lansing and regional Detroit focus; establish strategic priorities in common and unique to automotive related industries.
- Build awareness and focus among Michigan legislature; understand what’s going on in the industry and opportunities for Michigan/Region.
- Provide focused fast response capability for issues identification and orientation on unique/common auto issues.
Economic Development (including Talent Development)
Objective: Lead auto-focused economic development strategy to enhance retention and attraction of Michigan-based auto industry cluster.
- Be the “shared portal” providing access to resources and data that support and promote the industry, working closely with county and municipal economic development.
- Utilize work underway with regional economic development activities to build on Michigan’s automotive cluster – including Detroit Economic Growth Corporation for the City of Detroit.
- Together with the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Connection Point activity, connect auto-related companies with business opportunities – either in the industry or to expand their business through diversification outside the industry in related clusters.
- Help promote the industry to attract and retain top talent to Michigan’s auto industry cluster.
- Work with Workforce Intelligent Network (WIN) on Workforce Development – identifying the issues and helping to address the talent gap.
