Advocacy Committee

The Advocacy Committee works to increase communication and improve familiarity between Michigan’s automotive industry stakeholders and legislative and executive leadership in Lansing. The committee also works to educate automotive organizations in Michigan on state-based issues and the importance of voicing their concerns at the state level.

The Advocacy Committee does not engage in direct “lobbying” activities. If a proactive lobbying effort is warranted, MICHauto will utilize the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Government Relations team. Participation is limited to current MICHauto partners.

Committee Priorities:

  • Identify key legislative and regulatory proposals in Lansing, for the purpose of educating MICHauto investors and potential action via the Chamber’s Government Relations team.
  • Identify and develop means by which Michigan’s automotive industry can collectively increase its voice in Lansing, thereby educating state government officials and improving dialogue between both parties.
  • Increase collaboration with other automotive advocacy organizations, including Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) and Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (AAM).
  • Assist in planning and participate in MICHauto events that target legislative attendance.
  • Help grow MICHauto by recommending prospective investors and committee members.

Participant Commitment:

  • Maintain MICHauto investment
  • Regularly attend quarterly committee meetings

2019 Deliverables:

  • Host a Legislative Tour of the North American International Auto Show and AutoMobili-D and reception
  • Conduct meetings between legislators and suppliers as well as host a reception in Lansing at the capitol (Spring 2019)
  • Set a MICHauto policy agenda
