  • MICHauto and Chamber Applaud House Passage of Distracted Driving Bills

    Three bills that would increase penalties for people who use their phone while driving, for texting purposes or otherwise, passed the House by a wide margin Tuesday. The bills would make driving and talking or texting on a phone a crime with increasing fines. Under the bills, drivers would still be allowed to use their phones while driving, as long as it is hands-free.

    Officially, an average of nine people per day die in crashes involving distracted driving, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration — 3,142 nationally in the last year tallied, 71 of them in Michigan.   • North American International Auto Show Announces 2022 Dates

    The North American International Auto Show on Tuesday said the 2022 show will take place Sept. 14-25 in downtown Detroit.

    Rod Alberts, executive director of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association and the NAIAS, confirmed the dates during the 2022 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards presentation. Media/tech days will take place Sept. 14-15, the Charity Preview is scheduled for Sept. 16 and public days will run Sept. 17-25.
