With the North American International Auto Show in full swing this week, Detroit’s automotive prowess is on full display.

The Detroit Regional Chamber is capitalizing on this event, in part through its MICHauto initiative.

MICHauto is hosting a social media contest this week and next, asking attendees of the auto show to post their perspectives, with the hashtag #MichiganIsAuto, about why Michigan is key to the auto industry.

Winners receive a $500 gift card.

It’s a way to spark excitement about the auto industry and spread the word about the array of available automotive careers.

That’s a priority for Glenn Stevens, vice president of MICHauto. Talent attraction and development are vital, and Stevens is hoping that when school groups come through the show, some young people will be encouraged to pursue a career in the field.

While manufacturing and engineering are still major pillars of the industry, technology is becoming fused with vehicles — opening new job opportunities.

MICHauto’s efforts are a good way to highlight how Michigan remains the engine of the automotive world and what the state must do to maintain its standing.
