On April 22, MichAuto hosted its annual Automobility Day at the Capitol. Over thirty MichAuto investor companies met with legislators throughout the day to bring Michigan’s signature industry closer to policymakers in Lansing. This year focused on driving talent and economic development.

The discussions on talent development highlighted important areas for consideration:

  • Enhancing experiential learning, creating hands-on experiences that empower students to apply their skills in real-world settings.
  • Creating clear pathways to high-tech talent and skilled trades opportunities by connecting professionals to high-demand job opportunities.
  • Implementing workforce incentives to encourage students and employers to invest in knowledge-based programs, creating a stronger pipeline.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of counselor-student relationships to ensure students are supported in professional career growth.

The discussions on economic development highlighted important areas for consideration:

  • Remaining competitive in labor, real estate, and energy to drive innovation and efficiency, support logistics and manufacturing hubs, and meet production demands and regulatory goals.
  • Adopting stronger incentives and infrastructure to create conditions for widespread adoption and sustained growth in the automotive industry, amid emerging technologies.
  • Increasing funding and evaluating its allocation to ensure investments in the auto industry effectively support innovation, infrastructure, workforce development, and the transition to a sustainable future.

“The voice of the MichAuto automotive stakeholder community is represented by companies, institutions, and economic development from around the state,” said  Glenn Stevens Jr., Executive Director of MichAuto and Vice President of Automotive and Mobility Initiatives at the Detroit Regional Chamber. At our annual visit to the Capitol, and every day of the year, we are collectively communicating the importance of our industry to Michigan and how critical it is to promote, retain, and grow it for our economic future.”

MichAuto and its investors have their fingers on the pulse of Michigan’s most important industry, and it is the responsibility of organizations like MichAuto and its investors to work with leaders in the legislature and around the state to ensure its continued growth and strength. The industry’s success in Michigan is vitally important to the future success of our great state. Getting the right policies in place at every level of government has never been more critical. MichAuto will continue to work with any and all elected officials to do just that.
