Each year, MICHauto recognizes a distinguished legislator for his or her commitment to the state and the automotive industry. 2022’s honoree was Rep. Joe Tate, who was honored at a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda during the annual Automobility Day at the Capitol.
“Joe’s leadership as a co-chair of the Auto Caucus and ally to the industry has been indispensable these last several years. But we were especially grateful that we had his strong partnership and voice in late 2021 when we saw the passage of the $1 Billion Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve (SOAR) fund. Whether in the U.S. Marine Corp., the NFL, or as a legislator, Joe has proven to be a true leader throughout his career. We thank him for his service and look forward to his continued partnership,” said Glenn Stevens Jr., executive director of MICHauto and vice president of Automotive and Mobility Initiatives at the Detroit Regional Chamber.
Past recipients of the Legislator of the Year award include: Former Rep. Rebekah Warren (D-Ann Arbor), Sen. Steve Bieda (D-Warren), Sen. Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City), Sen. Ken Horn (R-Saginaw), and Sen. Mike Kowall (R-White Lake).
