Michael Sentance

Michael Sentance is an education reform consultant and has worked on improving public education for almost three decades at the local, state and federal levels. In the 1990s, he served as chief education advisor to Massachusetts Gov. William Weld and Gov. Paul Cellucci. Sentance developed most of the Weld-Cellucci administration’s education policies—from early childhood education to workforce development.rnrnAs Secretary of Education, Sentance was the sole authorizing agent for charter schools in Massachusetts when they first opened in 1995. His vision for charter school accountability helped establish one of the most rigorous charter school accountability systems in the country and influenced the development of charter school accountability across the nation. In October 2001, the White House appointed Sentance to a senior position overseeing the U.S. Department of Education’s regional office in Boston.rnrnSentance earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, a law degree from Duquesne University and a Master of Laws degree from Boston University.
