The President’s threat on the delay of the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan is increasing uncertainty for companies moving parts between the United States and Canada. MichAuto Executive Director, Glenn Stevens Jr. says, “We are all pointing towards this bridge being an enabler in a variety of different ways. So, I think calmer heads will prevail and we’ll get there, but it is a new wrinkle, and it does provide more uncertainty which the businesses in our industry do not need.” Canada and the United States are in the midst of trade negotiations related to tariffs enforced by the President early last year and under review of the United States, Mexico and Canada (USMCA) trade deal, scheduled to begin in July.
