In a conversation with Paul W. Smith, MichAuto’s Executive Director and the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Glenn Stevens Jr. discussed what to expect on President Donald Trump’s 2026 to do list for the automotive and mobility industry, including the review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) agreement, policies around autonomous vehicles and safety technology, and calmer waters related to trade policies.

“What we’re looking for, from the White House and from an industry standpoint, is much consistency we can get in policy, trade, and policy regarded to AI because the industry thrives on that. But Michigan has to lead in all these things. We can’t be standing still while we have short-term stabilization. With a lot of this policy, we have to look at the long view,” Stevens said.
