Alycia Meriweather was appointed as interim superintendent for Detroit Public Schools (DPS) in March 2016. Prior to her appointment, Meriweather served as executive director for the Office of Curriculum, a position to which she was appointed in the fall of 2015. She also has served the district as the executive director for the Office of Science Education, and the director of the Detroit Mathematics and Science Center.rnrnMeriweather has worked at DPS for the last 20 years, and is a lifelong resident of the city of Detroit. She has been a lead teacher, curriculum writer, professional development facilitator, and supervisor for middle school science. Meriweather is passionate about ensuring equitable education and unique learning experiences for Detroit teachers and students and has worked diligently toward this goal. She is a graduate of Detroit Public Schools, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University.
