Cornetta Lane is the founder of Pedal to Porch and Detroit Dialogues, a discussion group that focuses on strengthening Detroit communities through conversation and civic engagement. A lifelong resident of Detroit and graduate of Wayne State University, Lane is a passionate storyteller whose prior experience includes work with the Americorps program and Challenge Detroit.
In 2015, Lane was named a K880 Emerging City Champion as part of a fellowship program supported by the Knight Foundation. She was also named a Knight Foundation Cities Challenge grant recipient for her project, Pedal to Porch. Pedal to Porch is a neighborhood bike ride that includes stops where residents use their front porch as a stage to tell their story. The mission is to use storytelling to initiate new conversations between neighbors that will inspire connection, celebrate neighborhood history and encourage deeper community involvement.
