Michigan’s largest industries are caught in the firing line of a U.S. trade war with Canada, Mexico and China as the threat of tariffs threatens to upend the economy.
…
Glenn Stevens Jr., executive director of MichAuto, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s advocacy group for the state’s automotive industry, said there are no winners when it comes to tariff impact on local manufacturing.
“What I don’t think will be a surprise is that this is the first of what we’re going to see for as long as Trump is in office,” Stevens said. “If tariffs are prolonged, the consequences become pretty extreme. The whole cost of doing business becomes higher.”
