MichAuto Summit a Premier Platform for Automotive Leaders to Discuss Industry’s Future

That question served as the backdrop for the third annual MichAuto Summit held on Sept. 30 at Cobo Center in Detroit. Drawing nearly 500 automotive leaders and stakeholders from across the state, the Summit continued to serve as a premier platform to discuss Michigan’s automotive future.

Reinforcing the theme “The Connected Culture: Shaping Michigan’s Automotive and Mobility Future,” the Summit explored how Michigan can build on its unrivaled automotive resources and R & D and ultimately win the race for the autonomous vehicle.

Throughout the daylong agenda, keynote speakers, presenters and panelists challenged the status quo providing key takeaways for Michigan’s automotive industry. The event culminated with a keynote address from Gov. Rick Snyder, who called on the industry to “put the pedal to the metal” on ensuring that Michigan is the state that leads in connected and autonomous vehicle technology and redefines mobility for the world … again.

In addition to mainstage programming, the Summit featured an exhibit hall of sponsors and partners and a connected ride experience through the city of Detroit while welcoming a contingent of local university students to expose them to exciting automotive careers.

Key takeaways from the day included:

  1. Michigan’s past and future are inextricably linked in the race for next-generation mobility.
  2. Talent is the currency and No. 1 issue facing the automotive industry.
  3. Maintaining Michigan’s global leadership in mobility requires talent, infrastructure and innovative business models.
  4. Today’s marketplace demands a more modern, global corporate culture that embraces innovation and can adapt to the pace of change and disruption in a collaborative way.
  5. Automotive jobs are “sexy” and provide opportunities to solve some of the world’s most critical and challenging problems.
