Michigan will give $125 million in matching grants to advanced manufacturers and battery makers to help them leverage federal funding available under three major laws signed by President Joe Biden, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Thursday.
The Democratic governor said applications are open for the state’s new “Battery and Advanced Manufacturing Challenge.” The money is a portion of $337 million that she and lawmakers allotted to the nascent Make it in Michigan Competitiveness Fund, a pot designed to land projects via the federal Infrastructure and Jobs Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act.
