Barbara McQuade is a law professor at the University of Michigan, where she teaches criminal law, criminal procedure and national security law. She is also a contributor as a legal analyst for MSNBC. From 2010 to 2017, McQuade served as the U.S attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was appointed by President Obama, and was the first woman to serve in her position. McQuade also served as vice chair of the U.S. Attorney General’s Advisory Committee and co-chaired the Terrorism and National Security Subcommittee.rnrnDuring her tenure, McQuade’s convictions included former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and more than 30 others for public corruption charges; an Al-Qaeda operative for attempting to blow up an airliner over Detroit on Christmas in 2009; Volkswagen for cheating on emissions testing; and Takata Corp. for fraudulently concealing defective airbags.rnrnMcQuade previously served as assistant U.S. attorney in Detroit for 12 years, serving as deputy chief of the National Security Unit. She serves on the boards of SafeHouse Center, Crime Stoppers of Detroit, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, and the Hudson-Webber Foundation.
