Bob Ackerman
Bob Ackerman is professor of law and director of the Levin Center at Wayne Law. In 2013, he returned to full-time teaching and scholarship after serving almost five years as dean at Wayne Law. As dean, he led the school in the development of a new Transnational Environmental Law Clinic, an Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic, and a program for international legal studies. Ackerman also oversaw the opening of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights.
Ackerman teaches courses in torts, dispute resolution and negotiation. He serves on the advisory boards for Labor@Wayne and the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, and helped found Wayne State’s Dispute Resolution Consortium. He previously served as professor at Penn State University’s Dickinson School of Law. He also served as director of the Center for Dispute Resolution, at the time the nation’s seventh-ranked law school dispute resolution program.
Ackerman has written extensively in the fields of torts, dispute resolution, communitarian theory and civic responsibility. He is an active participant in professional groups related to conflict resolution and a founding member of Mediators Beyond Borders.
