Rev. Wendell Anthony

Rev. Wendell Anthony is president of the NAACP Detroit branch, a position he has held for 23 years. The Detroit branch is the largest branch in the country. It hosts the largest sit-down dinner in the United States, bringing together nearly 10,000 leaders who celebrate and commemorate the struggle for social justice, freedom and equality.rnrnAdditionally, Rev. Anthony serves as pastor of Fellowship Chapel and oversees numerous outreach ministry programs at the James E. Wadsworth Jr. Community Center, including health and wellness, youth mentoring, and development and job training. Rev. Anthony helped develop the Isuthu Institute (Coming into Manhood Rites of Passage program), which helps guide boys ages 6-18 with African-American male responsibility. It is one of the oldest mentoring programs of its kind in the country. He also initiated its female counterpart, the Intonjane Institute for girls ages 6-18. Rev. Anthony earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from Marygrove College.
