Co-founder, ProNav Marine; Research Engineer and Relief Captain, Great Lakes Research Center, Michigan Technological University

Travis White is a research engineer at Michigan Technological University’s Great Lakes Research Center, responsible for leading the Marine Autonomy Research Site and Smart Ships Coalition. His current research includes autonomous marine vehicle development, unmanned navigation, and marine technology application.  

White is also the co-founder of ProNav Marine, which produces marine autopilot equipment, GPS controls, and mobile navigation software. With over 14 years of experience as a licensed captain, he serves as captain for Michigan Tech’s 36-foot research vessel, Agassiz, and owns and operates a charter fishing company on Lake Superior. 

Prior to joining the Great Lakes Research Center, White worked as a mechanical engineer at GS Engineering, an engineering services company focused heavily on DoD research and development work spanning ground vehicles to amphibious craft.  

White earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University.
