MichAuto Attends GEM Annual Meeting as Talent Transformation Partner

October 24, 2024

On Monday, Oct. 21, the Global Epicenter of Mobility (GEM) held its annual meeting to reflect on the many accomplishments of the past two years and to discuss what the work will look like moving forward. Led by the Detroit Regional Partnership and funded by a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, GEM is committed to advancing the mobility industry in the region by fostering innovation, creating quality jobs, and preparing new business sites. To achieve these ambitious goals, GEM has adopted a collaborative approach, organized around six strategic pillars working toward a shared mission.

The six strategic pillars are:

  • GEM Central
  • Mobility Acceleration & Innovation
  • Testing & Proving
  • Supply Chain Transformation Center
  • Site Readiness
  • Talent Transformation

MichAuto is proud to be part of the GEM initiative as one of the 11 partner organizations contributing to the Talent Transformation pillar, which SEMCA Michigan Works! leads. This pillar focuses on training, reskilling, and upskilling talent to drive wage growth and job retention within the mobility industry, with a particular emphasis on supporting historically excluded communities. MichAuto is deeply dedicated to this work, and frequently hears from mobility companies about the critical need to expand the talent pipeline. As partners in the Talent Transformation pillar, we are committed to fostering collaboration between educators and employers in the Detroit Region, driving systems change, and strengthening the talent pipeline through career exposure and work-based learning programs.

Through MichAuto’s partnership with GEM, we have provided more than 1,500 high school students in the Region with opportunities to directly engage with the mobility industry. We have organized student tours at industry events such as The Battery Show and The Auto Show, while also continuing to connect students with automotive and mobility companies through our Discover Auto program. These exposure opportunities are helping to shape the next generation of talent.

MichAuto is honored to be part of the GEM initiative, working to shape the future of mobility in the Region. This project offers a unique opportunity to witness the power of collaboration across all facets of the ecosystem. The Detroit Region is well-positioned to cement its leadership role in advanced mobility. The passion, dedication, and intentional collaboration within the GEM initiative are key to making this vision a reality.

The MichAuto team is grateful to the Detroit Regional Partnership and SEMCA Michigan Works! for their leadership and is excited to continue working within the Talent Transformation pillar to best serve the mobility ecosystem and support the Region’s future workforce.
