MichAuto organizes 48 business leaders from across Michigan to ask Congressional leadership to pass USMCA
September 4, 2019MichAuto secured support from 48 Michigan business leaders from the automotive, manufacturing and agriculture industries to sign on to a joint letter urging Congressional leadership to pass the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
“Michigan’s business leaders have repeatedly and consistently stressed passage of the USMCA as a top priority for the future of our state and the continued growth of our largest industries,” said Glenn Stevens, Jr., Executive Director of MichAuto. “Michigan is distinctly reliant on trade with our North American neighbors, and MichAuto is dedicated to ensuring that our partners in Congress understand the implications this agreement has to the state’s economic health.”
The letter was sent ahead of a fly-in to Washington D.C. on Sept. 11 organized by the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), representing business voices from across the United States in support of USMCA’s passage.
“The 48 people on this letter represent a comprehensive cross section of Michigan’s automotive, manufacturing, and agricultural economies,” said Frank Ervin, Group Vice President of Government Affairs for the Piston Group and a Michigan group leader of the MEMA effort. “We’ll be sitting in congressional offices next week having these conversations, and I hope this letter can serve as a clear sign that Michigan is unified in our hope that USMCA becomes law.”
