New Michigan Auto Caucus Co-chairs Announced

March 15, 2023

On Wednesday, March 8, the Michigan Auto Caucus introduced Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Twp), Sen. Dan Lauwers (R-Brockton), Rep. Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton), and Rep. Curt VanderWall (R-Ludington), as the co-Chairs for the 2023-2025 legislative term.

For nearly a decade now, this bipartisan, bi-cameral Caucus has helped bring elected state officials together with auto and mobility industry leaders to learn from each other and collaborate to help secure and grow the state’s signature industry. This includes helping champion legislation like the SAFE Act and the Strategic Outreach Attraction Reserve Fund. MICHauto is proud to support its operation.

Each new co-Chair spoke about their excitement to join the Caucus leadership and passion for growing Michigan’s automotive and mobility industry.

Sen. Darrin Camilleri

The auto industry is literally in my blood, and it’s the heart of Downriver’s economy. As the son and grandson of union auto workers, I couldn’t be prouder to serve as one of the Chairs of the Auto Caucus. I’m looking forward to working with this group to make sure Michigan is at the center of the conversation around electric vehicles and the future of automotive manufacturing.”  – Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Twp)

Sen. Dan Lauwers

I’m excited and honored to serve as a co-Chair for this Caucus that helps raise awareness of Michigan’s vital role as the auto capitol of the world and to help advance policies to make Michigan’s economy stronger and more dynamic.” – Sen. Dan Lauwers (R-Brockton)

Rep. Ranjeev Puri

“As a current legislator, former employee at FCA, and forever champion of the Michigan automobility industry, I’m excited and honored to serve as the House Democratic co-Chair of the Michigan Auto Caucus. In this capacity, I look forward to working with colleagues from both sides of the aisle to continue to grow this industry that has long been one of the life bloods of our state’s economy and culture. Working together, Democrats and Republicans, industry and policymakers, can ensure Michigan remains the global epicenter of automobility innovation and manufacturing.” – Rep. Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton)

Rep. Curt VanderWall

I’m excited to be a member and Auto Caucus Co-Chair and work across the aisle to keep Michigan the world-leader in auto tech and manufacturing. Our State put the world on wheels and I’m looking forward to continuing that tradition and expanding upon it by making use of our world-leading talent and cutting-edge technology.” – Rep. Curt VanderWall (R-Ludington)
