Michigan Showcased as a Key Market for Future Automotive Talent at Nashville Summit

December 4, 2018

Last month, Katelyn Davis, director of MichAuto, attended DENSO’s North America Recruiter Summit in Nashville, Tenn. to share how MichAuto is setting Michigan apart when it comes to talent and discussed diverse talent markets. The two-day workshop for DENSO’s talent acquisition teams offered the opportunity to discuss best practices and processes to ensure growth in the changing automotive industry.

Davis presented on MichAuto’s continued work to serve as a unified voice for the industry. With a competitive landscape, MichAuto engages talent through its Discover Auto series, the annual MichAuto Summit, Mobility Week and Mobility Meetups at the PlanetM Landing Zone and by publishing Michigan’s mobility-related news on the unique “Driven” website.

Alongside other panelists from the Society of Women Engineers and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (pictured above), Davis’s panel focused on the talent pipeline, the future workforce and economic development in automotive. Additionally, the differences between the talent markets between Michigan and Tennessee were examined using examples of how to diversify recruiting techniques.

Key takeaways:

  • The need to continue to diversify recruiting techniques is key to continue growth in the automotive industry.
  • Creating unique experiences and programs for students to become engaged offers a unique way for them to experience the industry and see firsthand the opportunities the industry holds.
