On Dec. 2, I had the privilege of visiting Nexteer Automotive’s U.S. operations in Saginaw, Michigan, where I experienced firsthand the incredible work being done to secure the company’s future and bolster Michigan’s leadership in the automotive industry.

Nexteer, a global leader in motion control – specifically steering, driveline, and software solutions, is undergoing a significant transformation to ensure its continued success in an ever-changing automotive landscape. The company is embracing the latest technologies, pushing the boundaries of innovation, and making significant investments in sustainability while maintaining its strong foundation in the heart of mid-Michigan.

During my visit, I was impressed by the state-of-the-art capabilities and resources at the Saginaw site. I learned a lot from Jill Dralle, Nexteer’s Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Division, as we toured one of Nexteer’s manufacturing plants, a wastewater treatment facility, and their new solar field – all of which highlighted the company’s dedication not only to advanced manufacturing but also to sustainability. Nexteer’s innovations in both what they produce and how they produce exemplify how modern, smart manufacturing can balance productivity, profitability, and environmental stewardship.

Speaking of innovation, Robin Milavec, Nexteer’s President, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, and Executive Board Director, also touched on how Nexteer’s product portfolio positions them perfectly to address key global mobility megatrends, including electrification, automation, connectivity and more.  Nexteer is at the forefront of advancing the driving experience to be even safer, greener, and more exciting.  Nexteer’s commitment will ensure they continue to lead in shaping the future of transportation, both in Michigan and globally.

Beyond these cutting-edge processes and products, it’s the talent and skills of the Nexteer workforce that truly stand out. Michigan has long been known for its expertise in automotive manufacturing, and Nexteer’s Saginaw facility is a perfect example of how that tradition continues to thrive and evolve. The team’s commitment to excellence and innovation is evident in the work they do every day.

Nexteer’s efforts are also aligned with Michigan’s broader push to be a leader in the next generation of mobility. Their ability to adapt to the needs of tomorrow’s automotive industry will help ensure Michigan remains the global hub for automotive innovation and manufacturing.

At MichAuto, we are committed to supporting companies like Nexteer, whose work is vital to driving Michigan’s automotive future. As the industry continues to evolve, it is partnerships and collaborations with companies like Nexteer that will help shape the future of mobility. The resources and expertise at the Saginaw site are just a glimpse of what’s possible when we invest in the skills, technology, and sustainability needed to move the industry forward.

I look forward to continuing to work with Nexteer and other manufacturers across Michigan to build a strong, sustainable, and competitive future for Michigan and the mobility industry.
