President Donald Trump has laid out contrasting approaches to his trade policy — which could have sweeping impacts on Michigan and its auto industry — after returning to the White House.
First came an executive order directing several agencies to study several trade issues, including the use of increased tariffs, and offer up recommendations.

“Short-term tariffs against two of our critical trading partners is just not something that the industry really could tolerate without a lot of disruption, and clearly (would) cut into a supply chain, which is fragile to begin with and has had a lot of stress the last few years,” said Glenn Stevens, executive director of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s MichAuto.
