Sen. Wayne Schmidt serves the 37th Michigan Senate district of the Michigan Senate and serves as chair of the K-12 and Michigan Department of Education Appropriations and Transportation subcommittees.
Before his election to the Senate, Schmidt served from 2008-2014 in the Michigan House of Representatives and served as chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Commerce Committee.
Before serving in the state Legislature, he was elected five times to the Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners and served terms as both vice-chair and chair.
Schmidt earned a degree in economics and public policy from the University of Chicago. He is also a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University.
